What do you think of when someone says they're in a long distance relationship? I know for me what used to come to mind were people in a relationship across the country or across the world due to military deployment, business travel, or living separately after meeting through internet dating. Today what I want to address is the less talked about long distance love. This is the love that is over a shorter distance yet causes the same feeling of separation and loneliness. There are many circumstances that can make it difficult for two people to see each other in person but one that is becoming more prevalent is where one or both people have children at home. Especially during the beginning phase of a relationship, it is often inappropriate for the new lover to be part of "family" time and what unfolds can feel like an emotional roller coaster.
Seriously now, this shorter "long distance love" is real and just saying it out loud feels good. What do they say when you have a problem - the first step is to acknowledge it? That's the reason for my post today. I am officially acknowledging that there is a problem. Even though the physical distance may be short in terms of miles the long distance love is real when you look at how "long" two people have to communicate from a distance.
